TFAMAPS

Key words: pathways, maps, molteplicity, diversity, experimentation

no hay camino, hay que caminar

No hay camino, hay que caminar. Walking is a practice of knowledge, of exploration of the earth; our evolution began with our feet and continues in the new scenarios of the Anthropocene. Walking is a metaphor for the different paths that every quest takes. Maps are geographies of the imaginary where experiments, visions, life practices, and proposals intersect; they are a kaleidoscope of different paths that form networks of possible routes until useful maps emerge for orientation in the now.

Furnature Hanger

Category: Clothes Hanger/Wardrobe
Designer: Sovrappensiero Design Studio
Production: Prototipo
Year of production: 2016

This is a project to rebalance the relationship between the global and the local inspiration of the product. The objects that surround us are the result of a process that involves intercontinental actors and displacements: the design phase, the process of extraction and transport of materials, production, and finally, distribution. These products are ours only because we purchased them, and the connection that they have with their origin is difficult to read; it has no geographical connotations, and no resonance in the cultural reality of their owners. The work we have done on peculiarities, localism and customization has led us to a new research project that aims at the transformation of indistinguishable mass products into unique pieces, geographically characterized, with their own identity and open to completion by the user. We made “incomplete” objects, aesthetically anonymous, and stateless, but keepers of a functional intelligence that can be completed and activated through the addition of natural elements found by the user in a specific location and chosen according to their own tastes, needs and links with place. This creates a visible duality in the final object: a minimal component, generated by industry, reproducible anywhere, globally distributed and, therefore, a child of nowhere; and a natural component, unique, a child of a specific place and tailored to the tastes of the ultimate user, creating a new balance between global and local.

Bento|City

Category: Tray-container Designer: Dino Lorusso
Production: Arredamenti Moderni by Francesco Ippolito
Year of production: 2015
Material: birch plywood and ceramic tray-container

“Cairo, London, Moscow, New York, Paris, Rome, Tokyo ... Bento | City is an everyday object intended to incorporate suggestive forms. Each element is designed to communicate seamlessly with the other, as taught by Japanese aesthetics, which inspired the word "bento". Practical, light and handy, Bento | City is a tray-container dedicated to a city, or rather to the desire to remember the expectations associated with a memory that is personal as well as collective. The geometry is defined by the writing that becomes a sign. In this "practical labyrinth" letters separate spaces designed to accommodate different foods. The circle indicates the position of the glass or the ceramic bowl. Like a flying carpet, the Bento | City crosses the globe, bringing creativity, and nurturing not only the user but also their memories and fantasies of each city destination”. Manuela De Leonardis

Parigi 142

Category: Table lamp
Designer: Fucina Frammenti
Production: Produced by the Designer
Year of production 2022

Fucina Frammenti Forg identifies the presence of any "noble waste," a processed or semi-finished product that results from a company's production cycle. Once identified, the scrap is rethought through an ad hoc design intervention that ennobles the waste material by making it the protagonist of a new product with the addition of a few elements, and with the use of minimum energy, respecting the principles of ease of disassembling and mono-materiality of the individual parts. This collection of illuminating objects named "Parigi 142," is developed from waste from Murano glass production. It represents a true design manifesto and an approach to future production that is alternative to the traditional one. In fact, the collection is to all intents and purposes a fast-sell batch until sell of all stock rather than a one-off work of "collectible design". The amount of scrap available is related to the life and characteristics of the object itself.

The evolution of this form of commerce over time, and its tentacular expansion across the globe, has made it challenging to regulate. It grew out of the bioprospecting that took place throughout colonial territories during the nineteenth century, becoming one of the largest industries in the world both in terms of the revenue it generates and the impact it has on the planet's biosphere.
